Jakarta, era.id – The Cathedral Church building, which usually looks classic, looked different for three days from 26 October to 28 October. In order to welcome the commemoration of Youth Pledge Day, the Cathedral church administrators deliberately displayed a multimedia video mapping technique which made the appearance of the neo-gothic architecture building shimmer and bathed in light.
Not only that, the church landscape also displays the faces of the nation’s founders such as Soekarno, Muhammad Hatta, and Boedi Oetomo. The video mapping with the theme ‘Hi Indonesian Youth’ is one of several series of events presented by the Cathedral management to commemorate Youth Pledge Day this year.
Alvin Antono, CEO of PT Argo Visual as operator of video mapping at the Jakarta Cathedral Church, said that the concept of video mapping had been conceived for a long time but was only realized this year.
“The spirit is that this is the Youth Pledge moment, especially recently the differences have become sharper even though the presidential election has finished. So we want to remind you again to maintain unity,” said Alvin when met after the event at the Jakarta Cathedral Church, Monday (28/10/2019) .
He admitted that this 15-minute video mapping was designed by Yogyakarta Visual Mapping Production. The results did not disappoint, the optical illusion on the front of the church was able to display a cool light show.
Message of peace from the Cardinal and Grand Imam of the Istiqlal Mosque
Not just celebrating the youth oath moment, Jakarta Archbishop Cardinal Ignatius Suharyo said that amidst various concerns over recent divisions, celebrating the 91st youth oath event is expected to foster hope for unity among the nation’s children.
“We all know, the Youth Pledge together with National Awakening Day in 1908 and together with the promulgation of Pancasila as the foundation of our country are very decisive historical milestones for our beloved nation,” said Cardinal Ignatius Suharyo in his speech.
He said that this event was held to cherish the collective memory of the time when the youth oath was sung by young people from all over Indonesia.
Cardinal Ignatius Suharyo said that by caring for shared memories creatively, a sense of love for the homeland will grow and become a great collective force to continue to strengthen brotherhood against all national challenges.
“By caring for shared memories creatively, we will grow into a willingness to shoulder historical responsibilities together. We want to be independent, we want to be united, we want to be sovereign, live justly and prosperously. God bless us all,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Grand Imam of the Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta, Nasaruddin Umar, appealed to the younger generation to capture the very powerful spirit that was exuded by young people when the youth oath was announced. He hopes that the historical events that were ultimately able to unite the Indonesian people from Sabang to Merauke can continue to be cared for and repeated by today’s young generation.
“There is still plenty of space for us to carry out service like our predecessors,” said Nasaruddin in a video broadcast because he was unable to attend.
Nasaruddin said that with the spirit of this youth oath, it is hoped that young Indonesian people can make their homeland stronger and more resilient in the future.
“Let’s create a very strong Indonesian nation, whatever religion, whatever ethnicity, whatever gender, let’s work together as Indonesian citizens to raise the dignity of Indonesianness so that we can have international competitiveness and, God willing, will be victorious in the future,” he said.
