Sumonar Festival 2023 Strengthens Innovation and IT

Works of art can be displayed in various forms, one of which is through the form of a play of light. This beautiful and charming light art was displayed in Sumonar 2023 entitled Being as Such which was held at the Affandi Museum and the BNI Zero Kilometer Point Building.

This year, Sumonar is again utilizing public space, namely the BNI Building Facade in the Zero Kilometer area as a place for presentations of artists’ light art works which will take place from 1-3 December 2023. The annual video mapping and light art festival initiated by the Jogja Video Mapping Project (JVMP) This is an interaction space for light installation art lovers.

Head of DIY Disbud Dian Laksmi Pratiwi, said that Sumonar is a festival that is highly anticipated and one of the festivals that strengthens innovation by using information technology (IT). “It is hoped that this festival will have a broad impact, fostering the development of the ecosystem, especially light art in DIY and our challenge to become a barometer for Indonesia. Hopefully this light art will be able to become an energy for reflection, exploring cultural values, high levels of artistic innovation and becoming a brighter for Yogyakarta whose cultural echoes are not never went out,” he said.

Dian hopes that the 2023 Sumonar Festival will become a prestigious light arts festival that is widely known. Apart from that, the Sumonar performance points also take in cultural objects, one of which is a heritage building. This is part of the intersection with culture which could support the Sumonar festival in the future.

“The Video Mapping Show at BNI is the main outdoor performance at the light festival and one of the programs in a series of events from Sumonar 2023: Being As Such,” said the Director of Sumonar 2023, Donny Raphael (02/12/2023).

“This Video Mapping Show is special because it is supported by a Barco 4K 40,000 lumens projector by Argo visual, so that the video mapping works in the BNI building still look clear and sharp without being disturbed by the lights of many vehicles passing in front of it,” he continued.

Donny hopes that the Sumonar 2023 event on the BNI Building Facade in the Zero Kilometer area and the Affandi Museum will be able to provide wider insight to the public about video mapping work as a vehicle and new creative medium, as well as being a place for expression and presenting work for light artists in the country and abroad country. So Sumonar will be known as a festival to celebrate or a gathering place for domestic and foreign light artists.
